What is dental prosthetics?
Prosthodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals, in short, with the reconstruction of teeth. Teeth can be lost for various reasons. Fortunately, with the help of dental prosthetics, oral health can be regained through dental work, fixed or mobile, which can successfully replace natural teeth. Dental prosthetics offers:
• Full or partial tooth reconstruction
• Restores oral health
• Regaining masticatory functions
• An aesthetic denture
• Possibility of correct pronunciation
Dental prosthetics: types of work
Dental prosthetics includes both fixed works, such as crowns, veneers, dental bridges, and mobile works such as mobile dentures. At DentArbre dental clinic, we offer the following types of dental prosthetics:
• Ceramic or composite veneers
Dental veneers are, as the name indicates, pieces made of ceramic (porcelain) or composite that are applied to the teeth. Veneers have become an extremely popular option, especially lately, due to the fact that the appearance of the natural smile can be radically changed and greatly improved with their help. On average, dental veneers are guaranteed for 15 years, after which time replacement is recommended due to wear. With the help of dental veneers, the gaps between the teeth can be filled, the teeth can be perfectly white, imperfections such as short teeth can be covered.
• Crowns on implant
After carrying out the first stage of the dental implant procedure, or inserting the screw that takes over the function of the tooth root, in the second stage the dentist will make the externally visible part of the implant, or the crown on the implant. The crown on the implant is a fixed work, specially made in the dental laboratory for the implant, which can be made of different types of materials. There are implant-cemented or implant-screwed crowns. While the dental implant screw cannot be replaced, the crown on the implant is a job that can be changed over time. The crown on the implant looks and behaves like a natural tooth.
• Dental crowns
In addition to implant crowns, dental prosthetics also offers simple dental crowns, or crowns used for teeth that have a healthy natural root. The dentist can treat the natural root of a diseased tooth and then apply a dental crown. There is also the possibility of making a bridge for patients who do not want dental implants. In this type of work, the healthy, rooted teeth located next to the empty spaces are used to create a bridge with which the patient will get teeth in the empty spaces. In both situations, simple dental crowns are used. These crowns can be made of several types of materials: metal, zirconium, porcelain.
• Porcelain crowns and bridges on metal support
The skeleton of the crown is metal, while the outer part is made of ceramic (porcelain). It is an affordable option, the cost is lower than that of a zirconium abutment crown. It is a durable crown, but the disadvantage is aesthetic. For this reason, it is preferable to use this type of crown for works located in less visible areas.
• Porcelain crowns and bridges on zirconium support
Zirconium offers significant advantages as a light-transmitting material. The appearance of a crown made entirely of zirconium is much closer to that of natural teeth. In addition, the color of the zirconium crown can be perfectly matched to the natural shade of the patient's teeth. At the same time, a crown made on a zirconium support can be processed with the help of the computer, which means the elimination of human error and the possibility of obtaining a tooth with a very close appearance to the natural one.
• Porcelain works without metal support
The all-ceramic crown is made from a single block of material, and the natural color of the patient's teeth can be obtained. This type of crown does not contain metal and there is no possibility of gum damage. Porcelain works without a metal support are durable, offer optimal aesthetic results and can be done in a fairly short time, depending on the patient's general oral health.
• Acrylic and elastic prostheses, total and partial
The absence of teeth can cause a lot of inconvenience. Starting from those of an aesthetic nature, to affecting mastication, eating and the ability to speak. A dental prosthesis can quickly provide the patient with the restoration of these functions, at optimal costs. In addition, thanks to a dental prosthesis, the patient can regain his smile and self-confidence. At DentArbre dental clinic, we make prostheses of all types, total and partial.
Partial denture. Full denture
When the patient needs the replacement of missing teeth and dental implants cannot be used, a partial denture is made. If it is the absence of all teeth, then a total denture will be made.
Acrylic denture
It is made of acrylic or composite material and is a low cost solution. The disadvantages of an acrylic denture is that, over time, it can change its appearance, and the material from which it is made, acrylate, can cause allergies. The major advantage of such a work is that it can be done in a very short time, with low costs.
Elastic denture
The elastic denture is the removable denture, it is the denture that can be easily removed. It is a low-cost job, it can be easily sanitized, but it can be unstable, it can slip, and eating some foods can be more difficult. This type of prosthesis is fixed with the help of a special adhesive.
