If we talk about common dental conditions in Romania, the first problems anyone thinks about are toothaches caused by dental caries. Specifically, caries represent one of the most frequent problems of the dento-maxillary system, affecting about 80-98% of the Romanian population, and odontology is the branch of dentistry that solves them.

Dental caries represents the destructive process of the hard tissues of the tooth and is the most common dental condition, respectively being the most common cause of tooth loss. If you have encountered this dental problem, at our clinic you can benefit from odontotherapy – dental services for the treatment of caries.

What are the causes of tooth decay?

This is probably one of the most frequently asked questions when that problem attacks your teeth.

It is imperative to know that, initially, caries do not show any symptoms at all. But, to your great joy, a dentist can easily detect their presence following routine examinations. Thus, it is concluded that regular visits to a dental office are essential for the health of your teeth.

And yet, how is tooth decay detected?

Tooth decay is not visible from the start, it appears under the influence of several factors, among which are: the accumulation of bacteria in the oral cavity, failure to observe oral hygiene (increases the amount of bacteria), increased consumption of foods rich in sugar, smoking, stress and many others.

The tooth consists of 4 components: enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp, so it can be easily affected by foods or drinks that contain a high concentration of carbohydrates. Since the latter have the property of being transformed into energy and acids, over time they destroy the component layers of the tooth, thus favoring the appearance of caries.

What people don't know is that, in fact, these conditions can only be noticed with the naked eye when tooth decay is at an advanced stage. Only a dentist can detect the problem when it is still in its infancy.

But still, in an advanced phase, the most common symptoms are: toothache, sensitivity to hot, cold or sweet, bad breath or brown, even black spots on certain surfaces of the teeth (depending on its type, caries dental plaque is formed on different surfaces).

Once the layer of intact dentine between the pulp chamber and the carious process shrinks, the painful reaction to hot or cold, acidic or sweet foods and drinks increases, and at this stage the visit to the dentist already becomes an emergency.

As specialists of the dental office in Bucharest, Dentarbre, we inform you that not treating the problem in the early stages can lead to serious complications and higher costs.

Due to the large number of people who face this dental condition, the problem of caries has also developed myths, which are not true.

  • It is wrong to think that only sugar and poor hygiene are the cause of tooth decay.
  • Previously I mentioned the fact that such conditions do not give news in the early phase, so another myth consists in the fact that the problem of caries is noticeable even without the examination of a specialist. If we have dispelled this myth, you are welcome at the best dental clinic in Bucharest, for a consultation.
  • Don't believe when you're told that tooth decay is the only problem that can get worse. In general, the oral cavity represents a favorable environment for the development of bacteria, which in the end can be the basis of other dental conditions.
  • You already know that the problem of tooth decay is the most common cause of tooth loss. Claims to the contrary are wrong.
  • As a dental clinic with a vast portfolio and impeccable experience in the given field, we assure you that the information that children face this problem more often than adults remains nothing but a myth.
  • A seal lasts a lifetime. Nothing is forever, especially if it is permanently exposed to risk factors.
  • A filled tooth can no longer decay. Even a filled tooth can decay because the tooth still contains the 4 natural components (enamel, dentin, cementum and pulp).
  • The claim that baby teeth cannot have cavities or that they don't matter anyway, because the teeth change, leads to serious problems and sometimes emergencies that are difficult to solve (children are extremely sensitive to pain and in stressful conditions do not cooperate for treatment). Visits to the dentist are necessary right from the first teeth!

How can the occurrence of tooth decay be prevented?

Surely you already know that the regular visit to the dentist is the most important method of preventing caries and any other dental problem. But it is also very important to observe oral hygiene. The

equal and correct use of hygiene tools such as dental floss, mouthwash or mouthwash can save your teeth from the appearance of dental diseases.

Here are some tips that we recommend you follow to have healthy teeth:

  • For the health of the teeth, it is not only necessary to observe the general rules of care such as periodic check-ups and oral hygiene, this fact is also related to the harmful habits that some patients have. Because:
  • Avoid, as much as possible, subjecting your teeth to various traumas. Using your teeth as an opener or nutcracker is not the best solution for your teeth.
  • Alcohol and smoking are very harmful substances for the health of your teeth, they affect the dental layers, form deposits, which are unhealthy and, in addition, they do not look aesthetically pleasing.
  • Sweets, juices and other inappropriate foods have real harmful effect. "Not everything that is tasty is also healthy" and in our case, the expression that you have heard countless times from your parents, refers to the health of your teeth.
  • Regarding hygiene, it is very important to change the brush once every 3 months or after flu and cold.
  • Professional scaling and brushing once every 6 months is inevitable, as they destroy bacterial plaque and prevent the occurrence of caries, gingivitis and many conditions that can lead to tooth loss.

Methods of treating dental caries

As I mentioned before, in an early phase dental caries can be treated very easily, just by applying a special solution containing fluoride, thus stopping the decay of the tooth. But if its stage reaches the level where it creates a "hole" in the dental layer, the infected surface is removed and replaced with filling (dental filling). However, there are also cases in which the given problem progresses too far and requires root canal treatment. This is the removal of the nerve and the sealing of the tooth by means of a dental crown or total restoration.

If more than 6 months have passed since your last visit to the dentist, it's time to make an appointment. In sector 2 Bucharest we are waiting for you at our DentArbre clinic. You will be surprised by our professionalism and unique approach, as well as special offers on the services you need.
